CM attends semifinals of Late Tara Man Chettri Memorial Open Football Tournament

Namchi, 11 Aug [IPR]: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang [Golay] attended the first semifinal match of the Late Tara Man Chettri Memorial Open Football Tournament at Melli playground today.

The match was played between Kanchenjunga Football Club and Melli Football Club in which the former emerged victorious 3-2. Suman Hazra, the KFC goalkeeper, was named man of the match.

On 12 August, the second semifinal will be played between Real Football Club of Siliguri and Forest Melli.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister extended I-Day best wishes to the people and also spoke about the importance of playing sports.

He said that budding sportspersons should be encouraged to realize their dreams.

The CM cited examples of international football players from Sikkim Sikkim Nirmal Chettri, Robin Gurung and Bikash Jairu to highlight for the younger players that sports offered golden opportunities.

The CM emphasised that major sporting events should be adopted as business models in Sikkim and said that the State Government will provide the basic amenities for development of this model.
