Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club has entered the finals of the ongoing Independence Day Football Tournament 2019 for Chogyal Sir Tashi Namgyal Memorial Cup here at Paljor Stadium.
In the first semi-final match played on Monday, Sikkim Himalayan SC humbled Kalimpong XI 5-nil.
The home team maintained constant pressure on the Kalimpong outfit tight from get go and this was made apparent when Musa took Sikkim Himalayan SC ahead in the very second minute of the match.
Although the scoreline might not reflect it, the Kalimpong squad played its heart out to equalise but missed a few good chances. Instead, it allowed Sikkim Himalayan SC another opportunity when Zangpo Tamang scored in the 41st minute. The match paused for drinks break with Sikkim Himalayan SC in a 2-0 lead.
With Kalimpong players putting their best effort to bounce back into the match, Eugene extended the lead for the home team to 3-0 in the 54th minute.
Despite of some good attacks, Kalimpong strikers failed to convert any opportunity and could not get on to the scorecard.
In the meanwhile, OT Lepcha headed a wonderful goal for the home team in the dying minutes and another goal by Engpohang Subba in additional time sealed a 5-0 victory for Sikkim Himalayan SC.
Next, defending champions, ARC Shillong, will take on Sikkim Aakraman Football Club in the second semi-final match scheduled for Tuesday.
