NEBPS aims to increase employment rate in Sikkim


Gangtok, 16 Aug:

Software Parks India, an autonomous group setup in 1991 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has come up with a scheme, North East BPO Promotion Scheme [NEBPS], with the support of MoIET, with the aim to increase the employment rate in Sikkim.

Commerce and Industries Minister, BS Panth, along with STPI Senior Director, Divesh Tyagi, Additional Director, Debojit Sharma, in-charge STPI Sikkim, Bibhuti Raman Tiwari and other associates from the department made the announcement at a press conference today.

STPI has a center at Gangtok established in 2007 which provides incubation facilities.

The scheme promotes employment opportunities for the youth by promoting the IT & ITES industry, particularly the setting up of BPO operations in the North East.

For a BPO to set up in the NER, the company will require to be registered under the Company’s Act 1956/2013 or the LLP Act 2008 with a minimum average annual turnover of Rs 1 crore to bid for 25 seats. A consortium can also be formed by eligible companies.

STPI will cover 50% of expenditure per seat with an upper limit Rs 1lakh/ seat. Various special incentives will also be provided, the officials informed.

The Minister informed that the project will generate employment through the help of the IT sector and help the generations grow including the market.
