Ministry of Heavy Industries holds awareness campaign on FAME India

The Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Government of India organized an awareness campaign today at Lemon Tree Hotel, Sicheyon FAME India which is an incentive Scheme for the promotion of electric and hybrid vehicles in the country, a press release from the Transport Department informs.

Union Minister of Statefor Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Arjun Ram Meghwal was the chief guest for the program while LokSabha MP, Indra Hang Subba was the guest of honor. Also present were Secretary, Transport Department, RajuBasnet, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, Arvind Kumar and officers from Transport Department, GOI.

Government of India is looking to promote electric mobility as one of the key solution to reduce carbon emission. National Electricity Mobility Mission Plan 2020 (NEMMP) is a National Mission providing the vision and the road map for faster adoption of EV and their manufacturing within the country. As a part of the NEMMP 2020, the Department of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, and Government of India formulated a Scheme vizFAME India Scheme Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid) & Electric Vehicle in India launchedw.e.f 1st April, 2015 and extended till 31st March, 2019 as FAME –I scheme.

Fame – II (in operation) launched in 1st April, 2019 for period of 3 years till 31st March, 2022.These schemes were launched to encourage buying of EV and reduce fuel/gas/diesel emissions. The demand incentive is available to buyers of EV in the form of an upfront reduced purchase price to enable wider adoption of EV.

The GoI has allocated sum of Rs. 10000 crores for awareness programme, development of infrastructure for public charging station (PCS) for electric vehicle and other incentive support for electric buses, 2, 3 & 4 wheelers which are to be used for commercial purposes. Further, Govt of India gazette notification dated 24th July 2019 has exempted battery operated electric vehicle from paying fee for renewal of registration certificate and assignment of new registration mark.
