Defending champions, United Sikkim Football Club, registered its first victory of the ongoing Sikkim Football Association Premier Division Sikkim League 2019 here at Paljor Stadium on Monday.
United Sikkim FC outplayed Boys Club, Gangtok, 3-0 to finally get on the points board.
Both teams played contesting football since this was a crucial match for both teams. After missing some good opportunities to take the lead, the keenly contested first half ended in a goalless draw.
The entry of the former Indian football team skipper and founder of United Sikkim FC, Bhaichung Bhutia as a substitute in his trademark jersey No 15 at the start of the second half filled new energy and confidence in his team which was palpable in their game in the second half.
United Sikkim FC made constant attacks from the start of the second half and the first breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Suraj Subba scored the lead for the team.
When Boys Club players were trying to equalise the score, Sonam Tamang extended the lead to 2-0 in the 67th minute and within three minutes, Bhaichung Bhutia stretched the lead to 3-0 with a wonderful goal.
When the match appeared headed to end 3-0 in USFC’s favour, Rohit Tamang scored a goal for Boys Club in the 87th minute but it was not enough to stop the defending champion from registering its first victory of this season’s premier division league.
On Sunday, Sikkim Himalayan Sporting Club thrashed Unicorn Football Club 9-nil to secure three points. Eugene scored a double hattrick for the winning team, while his teammate, Musa contributed a brace and Zangpa added a goal to the huge victory margin.
