The High Court of Sikkim has upheld the decision of the trial court acquitting the accused in the alleged murder of Rakshit Meena, a student of Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology (SMIT) in May 2013.
Justice Bhaskar Raj Pradhan acquitted all the accused persons from all the charges citing that the evidence led by the prosecution taken in its entirety does not establish a case of murder.
The trial court had acquitted the accused from all the charges in November, 2016.
On 18 May 2013, Rakshit Meena was allegedly assaulted by Ugen Namgyal, Gurmey Wangchuk, Bidhan Pradhan, Loden Sherpa, Sonam Namgyal, Karna Hang Subba and Phurba Tamang outside a local pub.He was pronounced dead on arrival at Manipal Referral Hospital in the wee hours of 19 May.
