Chamling visits landslide-affected at Tsong, promises SDF will build new homes if Govt drags its fee

Gangtok, 27 Sept:

Sikkim Democractic Front president, former Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, today toured the landslide affected village of Tsong under Yuksam-Tashiding constituency and met with the affected people there.

He handed over relief mmaterials and supplies of essential commodities like rice, blankets, hotcases, dinner-sets, cooking oil and also materials collected for the affected families by the party during the Garibi Unmulan Diwas function at Gangtok on 22 Feb, an SDF press release informs.

He assured all required assistance and also announced that should construction of new homes for three families which lost their houses to the landslide not begin within a month, then SDF would construct these homes for them.

A public meeting was also held at the Dubdi Gram Prasashan Kendra during which Mr Chamling thanked the voters for their continuing support for the SDF. Although SDF lost from Yuksom-Tashiding by a slim margin this time, in the past, the constituency has consistently returned SDF legislators.

While condemning reports that the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha has been threatening people and forcing them to join the party, Mr Chamling reassured them that SDF would stand strong with them and lift this air of fear from the region.

Mr Chamling was accompanied on the visit by SDF senior vice-presidents RB Subba, SB Subedi, west Sikkim in-charge Sherhang Subba, vice-president LP Kafley, Sancharaj Subba [SDF's candidate from Soreng-Chakung for the recent elections], the party's Yuksom-Tashiding candidate Dichen Ongmu Bhutia and other party workers.
