Sikkim Newar Guthi to celebrate silver jubilee in grand manner

Gangtok, 27 Sept:

Sikkim Newar Guthi is completing 25 years and plans to celebrate the milestone in grand fashion with the festivities stretching for more than a month.

The Guthi was formed with the express aim to conserve the traditions and culture of the community.

Various competitions such as Ethno Newar Aachar (pickle) making competition, Newar Folk Dance, Newar Musical Instrument, Essay and Poetry Competitions etc. are being organized.

Auditions for a Talent Hunt are being organized at various places in Sikkim starting from Rongli (East) on 29 September, and then moving to Soreng (West), Singtam (East and South) and Gangtok (East). The finals are scheduled for Manan Bhawan on 09 November 2019.

Youth Awareness and Legal Awareness Programmes at district level are also being organized.

To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi awareness and cleanliness drives will also be held at all branches of the Guthi on 02 October.

To motivate youths and to make them aware of the traditional dresses, ornaments, traditions and culture, a Facebook-driven Bhaju Sikkim and Maiju Sikkim contest is also being organized. This year the upgraded version will include ramp walks, Q&A, talent show round, etc.

Grand cultural programme like Awards and Felicitations, Launch of Silver Jubilee Edition Souvenir magazine “Smarika” and Quarterly Magazine “PAU”, launch of Sikkim Newar Guthi website and other musical and cultural programme will be held on 10 November.

The celebrations will end with a Grand Musical Evening being organized at Manan Bhawan on 10 November 2019 with artists from within and outside the State performing. All events will be held in an eco-friendly manner without the use of plastics or other non-biodegradable substances.
