Contesting by-poll as Independent due to SKM-BJP alliance: Chewang Dadul

October 2, 2019

Gangtok, 01 Oct:

Independent candidate for Martam-Rumtek by-election, Chewang Dadul Bhutia today said that Sikkim Krantikari Morcha betrayed party workers and voters of the constituency by joining hands with Bharatiya Janta party.

Mr Bhutia is a senior SKM leader who has chosen to contest the by-polls as an independent candidate.

If SKM had contested the by-election in Martam-Rumtek and not had an alliance with BJP, I would not have contested the election, he said further adding that party supporters and public urged him to file his nomination against the SKM-BJP candidate.

He further said that SKM had lost the last assembly poll in Martam-Rumtek by only 84 votes and would have won the by-poll with a huge margin.
According to Mr Bhutia, he wanted to contest the 2014 and 2019 elections from Martam-Rumtek, but had bowed down to the party’s decision to field Dr Mechung Bhutia in 2014 and Sonam Venchungpa in 2019 from the constituency.

He said that he along with his supporters has no ill-will against the SKM party, but are against the alliance with BJP.
Mr Bhutia has urged the voters of Martam-Rumtek to vote for Gas-Cylinder, his election symbol.
