Gangtok, 04 Oct:
Hamro Sikkim Party working president, Bhaichung Bhutia, has held up the decision of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha leadership to provide backdoor entry into Sikkim to Bharatiya Janata Party as a very dangerous development.
He expressed concerns that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s final plan was to form its government in the State, something which the people clearly did not vote for.
Addressing a press conference here this evening, Mr Bhutia asserted that the people of Sikkim need to take the right decision for the by-elections and stop BJP’s forced entry convincingly.
“We will not allow BJP backdoor into the State and we have been going to the people with our slogan ‘Sikkim is not for sale’,” he said.
HSP, it may be recalled, was not planning to contest the by-elections until the SKM-BJP seat sharing arrangement was announced followed a day later by the Election Commission of India’s green signal to Chief Minister PS Tamang [Golay] to be able to contest elections nearly five years before his disqualification period was over.
Mr Bhutia stressed that claims made by SKM and BJP that their coalition was in the interest of Sikkim were totally false and baseless.
“Sikkim will get its due share from the Centre even without going in for a coalition and SKM can carry out developmental works for Sikkim from its share. But to seek extra funds for development is for corruption,” he alleged.
Mr Bhutia also raised questions of BJP about the audio clip of a senior BJP leader of Sikkim, Bhola Chauhan, which has gone viral, in which he can allegedly be heard commenting on Article 371F.
On the same, he commented that Mr Chauhan’s supposed support for dilution of Article 371F was not his personal opinion but BJP’s ideological position and perhaps even its hidden agenda for Sikkim.
He also asked the Darjeeling MP, Raju Bista, to clarify his stand on the Gorkhaland statehood issue. On the same, he added that HSP was in favour of the statehood demand but would never support the merger of Sikkim and Darjeeling.
HSP spokesperson, Biraj Adhikari, in turn, stated that HSP candidates for the by-polls will fight for the people of Sikkim and their rights. He reiterated the allegation that dilution of Article 371F was the hidden agenda of the BJP.
