Sikkim is not for Sale, HSP continues insisting BJP AND CENTRE NOT HAPPY WITH SLOGAN BUT WE WILL NOT

Gangtok, 11 Oct:

Hamro Sikkim Party working president, Bhaichung Bhutia, has reiterated that the party slogan for the bypolls, ‘Sikkim is not for Sale,’ was legally valid and legitimate. He asserted that the party would not come under any pressure to make any compromises regarding the rights of the people of Sikkim.

His comments come in the wake of the State administration pulling down HSP banners and hoardings with the ‘Sikkim is not for Sale’ slogan.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Mr Bhutia alleged that the people of Sikkim have been witnessing the pressure of Bharatiya Janata Party in the State.

He pointed out that BJP first took ten legislators from Sikkim Democratic Front by pressurizing them and has now forced two seats from the SKM for the by-poll.

He added that now BJP was trying to pressurize HSP into not using the slogan ‘Sikkim is not for Sale’.

On the same, Mr Bhutia informed that the party has consulted senior lawyers of Sikkim and the Supreme Court and has been learned that the slogan was legally valid and legitimate.

He alleged that BJP and the Central government were not happy with this slogan and was hence resorting to arm-twisting methods to discontinue its use.

“We want to clarify that HSP will not come under any pressure,” he said.

Mr Bhutia expressed that youths and people of Sikkim were upset with the present political scenario in Sikkim - of selling and buying - so HSP will not make any compromises on the rights of the people of Sikkim.

He informed that official correspondence has been underway with the administration but the party has still not receive the green signal to continue using the slogan.

Mr Bhutia urged people to take a picture with #Sikkimisnotforsale and post on the HSP social media page to save Sikkim.
