Gangtok, 18 Oct:
Former Mayor of Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC), KN Topgay today announced his support to Hamro Sikkim Party and its candidates for the upcoming by-election.
This was announced during a press conference held on Thursday at the HSP headquarters in Gangtok.
Addressing the conference, Mr. Topgay said that though he is still with the SDF party, he has decided to extend his support to HSP as SDF has betrayed the people of Sikkim and disrespected the mandate given by the people of Sikkim.
He said that the 10 MLAs of SDF joining BJP and two others joining the ruling Sikkim Krantikari Morcha is immoral and against the people’s mandate.
He said that there is no option left other than HSP as all other parties in Sikkim are betraying the people. He said that he has no objection to the SKM-BJP alliance but the back-door entry by BJP into Sikkim’s politics is not correct and unacceptable.
He informed that he along with his supporters from Gangtok will extend support to HSP and its candidate.
Mr. Topgay has not officially joined the Hamro Sikkim Party but has only extended support to the party.
Speaking on the occasion, HSP working president, Bhaichung Bhutia expressed his gratitude to Mr. Topgay for extending support to HSP and said that senior and experienced leaders like Mr. Topgay are not well received and respected by other big parties in Sikkim.
He also expressed hope that Mr. Topgay will provide guidance to HSP in days to come. HSP spokesperson, Biraj Adhikari has said that the party is very much hopeful that Mr. Topgay will formally join the party after the by-election.
