BJP candidates celebrate Will work on basic amenities, says Venchungpa; YT gets emotional


GANGTOK, 24 Oct:

Bharatiya Janata Party candidates have won both seats in the East District with a thumping victory in the by-polls. Sonam Tshering Venchungpa has won Martam-Rumtek constituency with 8204 votes, while Yong Tshering Lepcha emerged victorious from Gangtok constituency with 2508 votes. They were warmly received by their supporters, standing since morning in front of District Administration Centre [East] gate today.

Speaking to media persons after the victory, Sonam Tshering Venchungpa thanked the people of Martam-Rumtek constituency for their support and for electing him as their representative.

“As Martam-Rumtek constituency is still lacking basic amenities and infrastructure so my primary focus will be to work towards providing basic amenities and infrastructures in the constituency,” he said.

Responding to media queries, he said that this mandate of the people was the total acceptance of the seat sharing alliance of BJP-SKM. Mr Venchungpathanked workers and supporters of SKM and BJP, and people of the constituency.

Likewise, Yong Tshering Lepcha got emotional on his victory from Gangtok constituency. He said that he will remain indebted to the people of Gangtok for their love and support in the by-poll and assured to serve the people till his last breath.

He also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP high command and state-unit for giving him a chance to serve the people. He also thanked workers and supporters of SKM and BJP party for their support.

Responding to media queries, Mr Lepcha expressed that his struggle against corruption has led him to where he is today and that he will continue to fight against corruption. He also assured to work for the people of Gangtok irrespective of any party.
