Samajik Adhikarita Shivir held in Gyalshing Assistive aids distributed to differently abled and seni


Gyalshing, 15 Nov (IPR):

Samajik Adhikarita Shivir, a mega camp for free distribution of Assistive Aids and Appliances to Divyangjan and Senior Citizens belonging to BPL Category under ADIP and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, was held at Government Senior Secondary School, Kyongsa, Gyalshing, West Sikkim, today.

The programme was jointly organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) Department of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India, in close coordination with the Social Justice and Welfare Department, Government of Sikkim and West District Administration.

Chief Minister, PS Tamang attended the occasion as the chief guest and the programme was presided over by Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, Dr Thaawarchand Gehlot.

Deputy Speaker, Sangey Lepcha, Health Minister, Dr MK Sharma and Agriculture Minister, Lok Nath Sharma, Labour Minister, MN Sherpa and PHE Minister, Bhim Hang Limboo were the guests of honour.

The programme began withChief Minister, PS Tamang offering flower bouquet and khada to the Union Minister.

Union Minister, Dr Thaawarchand Gehlot, in his address, mentioned that the Government of India in coordination with the States is fully committed for the welfare and empowerment of persons with disabilities for their safe, productive and dignified life and such kind of programme began only after the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi came to power at the centre, he added.

Addressing the gathering, Union Minister, Dr Gehlot informed that a total number of 3458 Aids and Appliances will be distributed to 1073 beneficiaries at a total cost of Rs. 104.52 lakh in the West District.

Till date, the Ministry has organised 8227 camps whereby 40 lakh beneficiaries have been benefited with Aids and Appliances since 2014 throughout the country.

After his address, the Chief Ministerand Union Minister, jointly presented Aids and Appliances like Smart Cane, Wheel Chair, BTE Hearing Aids, Complete Dentures, Smart phones, Spectacles, Crutches, MSIED Kits, etc. to persons with disabilities and senior citizens.

Minister, Dr MK Sharma, in his brief address, extended warm welcome to the Union Minister and expressed gratitude for the mega distribution camp. He also shed light on various facilities being provided by the Government of Sikkim and schemes implemented in the State of Sikkim.

The programme began with the welcome address proposed by District Collector, West, Karma R Bonpo.
