Gangtok, 03 Dec:
The State Government has dismissed 29 Public Prosecutors including five Senior Government Advocates.
In a notice of discharge issued by the Secretary, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department on 02 Dec, the 29 lawyers have been informed that “…the state government has deemed it appropriate to dispense with your services.”
Their services will come to an end on 01 Jan, 2020.
Speaking to SummitTimes, a senior advocate said that the termination was “unceremonious” and included some senior PPs who have served for more than 30 years. He also said that the government has the right to do so, but Sikkim has among the highest conviction rates in the country, a feat which can be attributed to the services of the terminated Public Prosecutors.
