Gangtok, 16 Dec:
Chief Minister PS Tamang [Golay] today attended the state-level Sakewa celebrations here at Paruhang Sapten Mangkhim at Ranka Rai Goan.
The celebration was organised by Paruhang Sapten Mangkhim Samiti and Akhil Kirat Rai Sangh, Sikkim.
In his address, the CM announced government support of Rs 5 lakh to each community for celebration of their main festivals in the State and expressed his happiness at attending the Sakewa celebration. He appealed to the people to maintain and promote communal harmony and work collectively for the betterment of Sikkim. He also spoke on the importance of Sakewa festival.
The CM also announced that the SKM government will complete the Paruhang Sapten Mangkhim project.
“When our SKM government came, we had announced that we will give continuity to the good works initiated by the previous government. Hence, to complete the Paruhang Sapten Mangkhim is the responsibility of our government,” he said.
“This project was started by the previous government in 2009 but was left incomplete. After we came to power, we have been successful in partially completing this Mangkhim and will complete it. The project was budgeted for Rs 34 crore of which Rs 22 crore was already released and now we have sanctioned Rs 4 crore in the supplementary budget and the remaining Rs 10 crore we will give in 2020-11 budget,” he detailed.
While on the themes, the CM said the State government will extend support for construction of Bhawans of all communities.
Political Secretary to the CM, Jacob Khaling, also addressed the event.
The organising committee felicitated the CM.
Addressing the festival, Paruhang Sapten Mangkhim committee chief patron Mohan Dungmali informed that the Chief Minister has taken keen interest in completing the Mangkhim project at Ranka and that he had called committee members to Namchi and assured them total support.
