Gangtok, 17 Dec:
A state-level capacity building programme for youth on “Leadership and Personality Development Through Life Skills” was inaugurated by the Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Kunga Nima Lepcha, here at Paljor Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The programme is being organized by Sikkim State National Service Scheme Cell in collaboration with the NSS Cell of Guwahati.
The five-day residential programme is being attended by 150 NSS volunteers from 75 educational institutions from different parts of the State.
The programme will include motivational talks and activities, life-skill and personality development trainings, group discussions, debates, yoga, zumba, cultural and other activities conducted by experts and resource persons from different government and non-governmental organizations.
The Minister was accompanied to the inauguration by Secretary, SYA Department, Kuber Bhandari, and other officials of the department.
In his inaugural address, the Minister urged participants to consistently work on the NSS theme, ‘Not Me But You,’ to serve society in better manner.
He observed that NSS volunteers can play a very important role in leading and educating their families and society and contribute to the state and the nation building process.
“I am seeing future leaders in different fields in every NSS volunteer,” he shared.
The Minister encouraged NSS volunteers to keep a clear aim in life and follow it with confidence and determination. He invited them to take the full advantage of the camp and become inspiration for others.
Sports & Youth Affairs Department Additional Director [NSS], Doma Tshering Bhutia, mentioned that such programmes will help youth address the challenges of their daily lives and motivate them.
She mentioned that the programme has experts, motivational speakers and life skill trainers from different areas and expressed hope that the programme will help NSS volunteers lead their respective areas and people in a better way.
The inaugural function was also addressed by Dewakar Basnet and Sapant Pradhan as motivational speakers. The inaugural function also included yoga and Zumba sessions.
The inaugural function, which was conducted by SYA Assistant Director, Pincho Bhutia, was concluded with vote of thanks proposed by State NSS Coodinator, Babita Chettri.
