Gaeboo Achyok’s birth anniv celebrated at Pandam Dee

Gangtok, 22 Dec:

Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association celebrated the 288th birth anniversary of Lepcha King, Panu Gaeboo Achyok, at one of his fort’s in Sikkim, Pandam Dee at Central Pandam in East Sikkim on 20 December, a press release informs.

The celebration began with respected Bongthings from Rey, Lingding, Nandok and Singhik offering prayers invoking Rum and Panu Gaeboo Achyok seeking blessings for the Lepcha community.

The ritual was followed by presentations on the significance of the day by students from colleges and Sikkim University.

The programme was attended by the president of Renjyong Mutanchi Ringmom Kurmom, Ugen Shipmoo, president of Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarjum, Tsheten Lepcha, NT Lepcha, former president RMRT and Chuksung Lepcha, Advisor (SLYA).

Members from the districts, constituencies and village branches of Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association also participated in the celebrations.

SLYA president, Ongden Tshering Lepcha, in his address, emphasized the significance of the day and the importance of preserving culture and heritage. He also declared that the celebration of Panu Gaeboo Achyoks’s birth anniversary at Pandam Dee will be an annual programme of SLYA henceforth.

While extending his gratitude towards the Bongthings, guests, students and youth, he made special mention of Tensung Lepcha, Addl. Chief Engineer, PHE, for his support in making the programme a success.
