Dzongu, 02 Jan:
The three-day Namprikdang Namsoong festival at Dzongu, North Sikkim, started today. The festival is scheduled to continue till 04 January.
The festival was inaugurated today by Forest Minister, Karma Loday Bhutia in the presence of Roads & Bridges Minister, Samdup Lepcha who is also the chief patron of the celebration, In-charge, Chungkipo Lepcha, president Celebration Committee, Nezing Lepcha, DC North, TT Kaleon, DFO North, Pempa Dadul Bhutia and officials from various Departments.
General Secretary, Namprikdang Namsoong Celebration Committee, Samten Lepcha, while delivering the welcome speech highlighted the tradition of Namprikdang festival.
The chief guest, in his speech, urged all the people of Dzongu to safeguard their culture and identity.
He also stated that all the villagers should be united in making decisions for the benefit of the area and also urged that there should not be any disparity among the people regarding Teesta Stage IV.
The chief guest and other guests also visited the traditional stalls while the festival also includes colourful cultural program, traditional games, etc.
