Maghey Mela concludes at Mangshila

Mangan, 15 Jan:

The organising committee of Maghey Mela at Mangshila in North Sikkim today felicitated Rajya Sabha MP, Hishey Lachungpa, and former area MLA [Dzongu], Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

The final day of the festival had the MP as chief guest accompanied by the former Dzongu MLA accompanied by the present MLA, Pintso Namgyal Lepcha.

The area MLA, remarked that such festivals should be organised as mega events and extended his best wishes to the people.

He also said that infrastructure like a public ground and a botanical garden are being developed at Mangshila-Tibuk GPU and informed that a memorandum for the same has been submitted to Union Minister, Kiren Rijiju.

The former Dzongu MLA, Sonam Gyatso Lepcha, in turn remarked that there has been massive development in the area and appealed to the people to remain united for continued development.

He further appealed to the law enforcement personnel for strict law and order maintenance in North Sikkim.

The chief guest, in his address, said that the Manghim at Mangshila was one of the earliest infrastructures developed by the previous government. Elections come and go, but we should not get divided, he said.

The MP added that government officials should treat all people equally and avoid nepotism and favoritism.

A colourful culture programme was also presented by the different dance troupes.

Ram Bahadur Limboo, president, Celebration Committee, extended gratitude towards all well-wishers on behalf of the committee members for making the festival a grand success.

Also present in the function were Up-Adhakshya North, Theney Bhutia, ASP North, Mahendra Subba, Zillab and panchayat members and the general public.
