The Tribal Research Institute, SJ&WD, Government of Sikkim, in collaboration with Sports and Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sikkim, organised its second edition of Mapping of Tribal Sports Talents at Mangan today, a press release informs.
This second edition of Mapping of Tribal Sports Talents was funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India. The mapping was done in Archery, Table Tennis, Taekwondo and Football.
Tribal children from the age group of 9 to 14 years participated in these events and displayed their skills. The best two talents from each category will be considered for participation in the state level at Gangtok to be held later. After due selection, the best 10 talents will be sponsored to visit a Sports Academy outside the state, the release mentions.
The objective of the program is to identify talents from these tribal children and groom them so that they can avail opportunities to hone their skills in a chosen discipline in national and international arena.
The Mapping of Tribal Sports Talent will be subsequently held in rest of the 3 districts shortly.
The programme at Mangan was attended by the Officials of Tribal Research Institute, coaches and officials from Sports and Youth Affairs Department (Gangtok & Mangan), Government of Sikkim.
