DR Thapa not BJP president, clarifies Chauhan

Gangtok, 27 Jan:

BJP Sikkim president, DB Chauhan, has condemned news circulating on social media of Upper Burtuk MLA, DR Thapa being appointed BJP Sikkim president.

Speaking to Summit Times, Mr Chauhan said that BJP State Unit president is nominated and appointed by the party’s central committee but as of now no information or report has been received from the BJP high command.

“We totally condemn the news going viral on the internet in regard to the appointment of DR Thapa as the president of BhartiyaJanata Party Sikkim Unit,” he said.

According to Mr Chauhan, the BJP Central Committee is busy with the Assembly Elections in Delhi and the appointment of Sikkim unit president may be taken up and declared after the Delhi Assembly election after 10 February.

There are 13 other states where BJP is yet to appoint presidents, so it may take place probably after 10 Feb, he added.

If there is any such development, BJP Sikkim unit will officially declare and inform the Sikkimese through a press conference or through its officialsocial media platforms.

It may be mentioned here that DR Thapawas elected ona Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) ticket in 2019.However, he along with nine other SDF MLAs joined BJP.
