Indian and Chinese army personnel meet for R-Day and Chinese New Year celebrations
Gangtok, 27 Jan:
A ceremonial Border Personnel Meeting [BPM] between Indian Army and People's Liberation Army was organised at Nathu La, Bum La and Kibithu on 26 Jan to jointly celebrate the 71st Republic Day and Chinese New Year, a press release informs.
A gift exchange ceremony was also hosted by the Indian Army for PLA at Kongra La in North Sikkim.
The BPM mechanism has evolved into an important interface where local issues get discussed and are resolved thereby fostering confidence among the Border Guarding Troops, an Army press release explains. This ensures prevalence of peace & tranquillity along the LAC, the release adds.
The events commenced with the hoisting of the national flags and rendition of the national anthems of both nations which was followed by a ceremonial welcome address by the respective delegation leaders.
The function involved extension of greetings and display of cultural programmes.
The proceedings reflected a mutual desire to maintain an environment of Peace & Tranquillity along the LAC which is a prerequisite for good relations between both the nations, the release underlines.
The delegations interacted in an environment of amity and friendship, the release states, and reaffirmed their resolve to strengthen friendship and maintain peace along the LAC.
The delegations parted amidst feeling of friendship and commitment towards enhancing the existing cordial relations along the LAC.
