No Coronavirus in Sikkim, beware of misinformation: Health Dept

The Health Department has refuted claims of Coronavirus cases being detected in Sikkim and cautioned people against believing or sharing such misinformation.
An audio clip has been circulating on Whatsapp where it is claimed that a Coronavirus case has been confirmed at New STNM Hospital, Gangtok.
Speaking to Summit Times, Director General, Health Department, Dr Pempa T Bhutia, said that no case has been reported and this audio clip is a scary prank.
“There is a national watch on Coronavirus cases across the country which is constantly updated and till 6 pm today there have been only 3 confirmed reports of Coronavirus in the entire country and no reports in Sikkim,” informed Dr Bhutia.
He cautioned people against believing or sharing such misinformation.
The department has established a 20-bedded ward in old STNM hospital for quarantine process and isolation wards.
Dr Bhutia said that no case has been reported from this ward so far.
It may be mentioned that the Health Department had held a press conference on 05 Feb informing about the intense screening process underway at all border checkposts of Sikkim. The Department had said that 81,237 persons entering Sikkim had been screened so far with no reports of any Coronavirus case.
Health Department has also set up a helpline – 104 – where people can call for any information regarding the virus.
