Sikkim’s Taekwondo teams have returned after impressive outings at two national championships.
A seven-member Sikkim squad won 6 gold and one silver medal at the Grand Open National 1st Republic Cup Taekwondo Championship 2020 organised by Shine Star Academy at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi on 29 January.
Sikkim finished the championship as runner-up team with the State’s Deveswar Prasad winning the Best Fighter Trophy.
Similarly, another 21-member State team bagged 16 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals at the 1st TSA Open National Taekwondo Championship 2020 organized by Taekwondo Sporting Academy, Jaipur on 08 and 09 February at Rajasthan University Sports Complex, Jaipur. Here, Sikkim was also the overall team champion.
Addressing a press conference here today, team coach, Sagar Sundas, lauded the outstanding performance and congratulated the medals winners.
At the Grand Open National 1st Republic Cup Taekwondo Championship, Raj Gurung, John Rai, Deveswar Prasad, Gunjan Rai, Ranjana Mukhia and Diya Sharma bagged a gold medal each, while Yangchen Sherpa won a silver medal.
Likewise, at the 1st TSA Open National Taekwondo Championship 2020 in Jaipur, the gold medalists were Humila Subba, Yangchen Sherpa, Dichen Bhutia, Sanskar Subba, Sujal Chettri, Ganjana Mukhia, Neha Rai, Gunjan Rai, Mantosh Kumar Baitha, Pratiksha Thapa, Bindita Basnet, Sunil Limboo, Rohan Jyoti, Raj Gurung, Anil Balmiki and Deveswar Prasad.
Silver medals were bagged by Tshering Diki Tamang and John Rai and bronze medalists are Diya Sharma, Pushpanjali Gurung and Racheal Rai.
