Sikkim is ready for filmmakers: SFCS

GANGTOK, 21 Feb:

The much awaited Global Cinema Festival is taking place in Gangtok from 28 Feb to 01 March. It is the first ever film festival of this scale to be held in Sikkim and is being organised by the Sikkim Government in association with Film Federation of India and Sikkim Film Co-operative Society [SFCS]. Preparations are on full swing to have a successful film festival and the State government is planning to announce the film policy of the State government during the festival. Among the organisers, the SFCS was established in November 2019 for the welfare of filmmakers and artists of Sikkim while also to work towards the development of the regional film industry, uplift local talents of the state, as well as to organize film festivals,informed SFCS president, Deependra Mohra. The Global Cinema Festival Sikkim, 2020 is SFCS’s first project. According to SFCS, Sikkim has great potential to become a film shooting destination and many of Bollywood’s biggest blockbusters have been shot in Sikkim in past like the The Jewel Thief. Recently, the State served as a location for Hindi movie Qarib Qarib Single. Mr Mohra also mentioned that Sikkim has a rich resource of manpower and talent required for film making along with its famous hospitality and the State offers a range of beautiful backgrounds.

Sikkim at present has around 45 local production houses which are working on various projects and are equipped to take larger projects and also do collaborations, said Mr Mohra. Sikkim has a whole line up of artists, actors and other technical experts in the field of film-making, he added. With a line of production houses that are equipped to handle short and feature-length films – commercial and otherwise, Sikkim is the perfect platform for those who are looking for resource and services, he further stated.
