The newly-formed executive committee of Akhil Sikkim Khas Chettri Bahun Kalyan Sangh [ASKCBKS] has reiterated its commitment to work with other community organizations of the State to contribute towards the development and progress of Sikkim.
The committee has further expressed resolve to work for the welfare of every member of the Khas community.
The election committee handed over certificates of election to members of the new executive committee, led by Raju Basnet as president, at a special function held here today.
The new executive committee has Raju Basnet as the president, Narayan Khatiwada and Yogesh Sharma as working presidents, KN Sharma as general secretary, TN Khanal, ML Niroula, Rajesh Kumar Chettri and DP Adhikari as vice-presidents, Pawan Parsai, Tara Prasad Bhattarai, Madhu Sharma and TB Chettri as secretaries, KL Timsinha as cultural president, SK Chettri as youth president, Ramesh Chettri and Darshan Upreti as treasurer, Dewakar Basnet, Bikash Chettri, Deepak Sharma and Rajesh Dahal as joint secretaries.
Addressing a press conference after the function, the new ASKCBKS president informed that the association, formed in the year 1994, has been working in the interest of the Khas community and now the responsibility has been entrusted to the new team.
“Our main objective is to ensure the contribution of Khas community towards Sikkimese society,” he expressed.
He further mentioned that the new committee has young members from all parts of the State and this young team will work actively in the interest of the community and the Sikkimese society.
While sharing plans and programmes of the new executive committee, Mr Basnet mentioned that the committee would immediately start work on the construction of a Bhawan for the community in Gangtok.
He further mentioned that the organization would immediately launch a state-wide membership drive.
Responding to a media queries on tribal status for the eleven left-out communities, Mr Basnet said that tribal status was the right of community and much-required and that the organization would work towards taking this demand to its logical end.
