The valedictory function of the Inter Institutional Camp on Leadership and Personality Development for National Service Scheme [NSS] volunteers was held here at Paljor Stadium complex on Sunday afternoon.
The five-day residential camp was organized by the NSS Cell of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department and funded by the Regional Office, Guwahati. The camp was attended by 200 NSS volunteers from 100 educational institutions from different parts of the State and had Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Kunga Nima Lepcha, as chief guest accompanied by Director [Higher Education], Education Department, Kapil Meena, as guest of honour among other dignitaries.
The entire valedictory function was managed and conducted by NSS volunteers of the camp themselves.
In his valedictory address, the Minister congratulated the State NSS Cell team led by Additional Director, Doma Tshering Bhutia for successfully conducting the camp.
He recognized that various activities which formed part of the camp would help groom better citizens for the society and the nation.
On the same, he encouraged NSS volunteers to use the skills and knowledge gained at the camp in their own lives and give selfless service to society and the people.
The Minister also congratulated participants for donating blood and participating in other activities during the five-day long camp.
Additional Director, Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Doma Tshering Bhutia, informed that two NSS volunteers each from 75 senior secondary schools, 22 colleges and 03 universities of the State had participated in the camp.
She added that an experienced life-skills trainer, Ratna Singh, from Guwahati and other officials and experts from different fields had taken sessions on their respective subjects. The five-day camp also included sessions on yoga, Zumba and self-defense.
Earlier, NSS volunteers, Mingma D Sherpa from SRM University, Langrip Lepcha from DIET Namchi and Dharma Raj Chettri from Sikkim Manipal University shared their experiences of the camp.
They said that the camp had been a life-changing experience and helped boost their confidence and hone their skills. They further assured to work continuously for the State.
Likewise, an NSS volunteer, Durga Thapa from SRM University gave a brief report of activities taken up during the camp.
The function, which was conducted by Pratime Bajgai from B.Ed. College, Soreng, and had started with a welcome address by Diksha Rai from Sikkim University and concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by another NSS volunteer, Ezrel.
The valedictory function has also included distribution of certificates to the Best-20 participants of the camp and to all participants.
Pranta Jyoti was adjudged the Best NSS Volunteer of the camp.
