Gangtok, 03 Mar [IPR]: A team from IRCON International Limited, which is tasked with the construction of Rangpo-Siliguri railway, along with executive members from State Level Railway Contractor Welfare Association of Sikkim, called on the Chief Minister, PS Tamang at Tashiling Secretariat today and presented the detailed plan of ongoing Rangpo-Siliguri railway construction project.
The IRCON team was led by General Manager, (Civil, Siliguri region), TT Bhutia, who was accompanied by CGM, RP, IRCON, Surender Singh from Delhi, CGM Siliguri IRCON, NS Negi, and JGM IRCON, Sajjan Singh.
The delegation presented the detailed plan of ongoing Rangpo-Siliguri railway construction project and the progress and difficulties faced during the inception.
During the meeting, it was revealed that despite of frequent natural calamities and unpredictable disasters, the company is committed to execute the work smoothly with a goal of completing the railway line from Siliguri to Rangpo by 2023.
It was also informed that 86% (that is, 38 km out of 45 km) will be in tunnel works and only 7 km will be in open space. It was also informed that five stations have been specified by the Railway authority, namely Sevoke, Riyang, Teesta Bazaar, Melli and Rangpo.
The Chief Minister informed that there is also a proposal for extension of this railway line upto Gangtok and onward to Nathula in the near future.
The Chief Minister also expressed his readiness to render every necessary support to the construction committee and advised the members of the Association to maintain coordination with the entire railway construction team, achieving positive outcome for the state.
