State has adequate stock of essential commodities, Deptt reassures

GANGTOK, 26 March:

There is no shortages of food and other essential commodities in the East district of Sikkim and will able to cater for another 2 months, informed Dakman Subba, District Civil Supplies Officer, East.
He said that as of now there is 80,000 Matric Tons food grains including wheat is available in the FCI godowns adding that 10070 MTs is available for east district.
As of now, 9 godowns are in Sikkim having enough essential food commodities, Mr. Subba said. He further informed that the Gangtok Urban and Rural godown with capacity of 2000 MTs have 2050 Quintal tons and 1800 Quintal tons is available. Similarly,Ranipool have 1450 qtl. tons, Singtam have 2570, qlt. tons, Rangpo have 350 qtl.tons, Pakyong 750 qtl. tons, Rhenock have 400 qlt.tons, Rongli have 500 qlt. tons and Makha with 200 qlt. tons.
In view of the emergency situation, east District have already completed distribution of March PDS, and if such situation arises Department is ready to distribute PDS in advance for month of April.
He appeal the people that there is no point of panic as enough essential food grains are available in the state to cater it's people.
The department has also made arrangements with West Bengal counter in Siliguri to provide enough essential vegetables as per the demands of the people. The department has already issued more than 30 permits to fair price shops across the district for carrying required essential commodities from Siliguri.
In the East District, there are 9 food godowns including central Food Cooperation of India godown at Rangpo.
