Singtam, 27 Mar:
Friday, the haat day for Singtam bazaar, wore a desolate look as people supported the lockdown provisions today, day-3 of the 21-day nationwide lockdown.
There were some local farmers who were keen to sell today, but decided to stay away in support of the lockdown even though it hurts their livelihood.
What has happened because of the lockdown though is that local organic produce is no longer available and the only shops open get most of their supply from Siliguri.
Some villagers suggested that the government could consider lifting their produce and supplying it locally, that way, kitchens here can continue receiving local produce and growers too will not be setback too much.
