Lall Bazaar goskhan ordered shut for a week to clean up

Gangtok, 31 Mar:

The Department of Animal Husbandry has ordered the closure of the meat shops at Lall Bazaar here for a week after finding them being run in unhygienic conditions.

Animal Husbandry Department and Gangtok Municipal Corporation officials today made a surprise visit to the Goskhan and discovered that the facility was not following food safety standards.

The officials also warned the shop owners to keep their shops clean and not slaughter animals there. Slaughtering should be done only at the slaughter house situated at Rangpo.

Additional Director, Animal Husbandry, Madan Shankar, while speaking about the inspection, said, “At this moment of Coronavirus crisis, we should maintain proper hygiene everywhere and hence the surprise inspection. We have ordered the shops to shut down for at least one week during which period they have to clean it thoroughly. After one week we will inspect things again.”
