South and East DCs ask pharma workers to resume duty
Gangtok, 31 Mar:
Following a slew of protests by workers of pharmaceutical companies in the State, District Collectors of South and East Districts have appealed to the workers and their employers to return to work.
The DC East issued an appeal on 30 March while DC South has issued an appeal today. Both urge pharma companies and their workers to continue to work since they are engaged in production of essential medicines and equipments. The DCs have said that the companies are taking care of the hygiene of the employees as per instructions of the government.
The appeal further informs that the State Government has directed the companies to pay an incentive of Rs 300 per day to each worker who reports for work during the lockdown period.
"If the employees of the pharmaceutical companies do not join their work or if they are not permitted to join their work than appropriate action under the Disaster Management Act, 2000 shall be taken," the DCs have stated in the appeal.
