The East District Administration has appealed to those who entered Sikkim in the last 15 days and had attended the Tablighi Jamaat in Nizamuddin Markaz Mosque, Delhi, to come forward and disclose this to the administration so that adequate precautionary measures could be taken. Similar exercises have been undertaken in other districts as well.
SDM [Gangtok], Robin Sewa, made this appeal by using a public address system to people residing around the Masjid area and other parts of the capital here today.
He further appealed to residents to remain indoors and inform the administration if any new persons have started to living in their neighborhood in the past few days.
It may be recalled that the Tablighi Jamaat took place in Delhi's Nizamuddin Markaz Mosque in early March and has now emerged as a COVID-19 virus hotspot after numerous cases across India were traced back to the event.
This religious congregation was attended by people from across India as well as other countries and many attendees have shown symptoms of COVID-19 of which and positive cases have been confirmed.
Addressing media persons, the SDM mentioned that the reports of new positive cases of COVID-19 and its symptoms from attendees of Tablighi Jamaat have shocked the entire country and it was a matter of great concern for Sikkim as well.
On the same, he appealed that if there was any attendees of Tablighi Jamaat who have entered Sikkim without informing the State administration about their participation, they should come forward for the test and other required protocol.
