Excise Deptt warns of strict action against sale of liquor during lockdown

Gangtok, 02 Apr [IPR]: The Excise Department will be deploying surveillance teams starting today to check against the sale of liquor during lockdown, the provisions of which do not allow either liquor shops or bars to remain open.

The Department is taking this step in response to reports from various quarters, including members of the public, that some Excise vendors are still selling liquor even as some people are forcing the vendors to open their shops.

The Department has warned that whoever is found selling liquor will have their licences seized and cancelled and those found buying liquor or forcing vendors to provide liquor will be prosecuted severely.
