“STNM Hospital ‘fully prepared’ for every COVID-19 eventuality”

STNM Hospital at Socheygang is fully prepared for any COVID-19 eventuality in the State, the Hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Passang P Bhutia, assured today.
Speaking about preparations already made by the hospital, Dr Bhutia informed that the 8th and 9th floors of the hospital have been appointed as isolation wards for treatment of COVID-19 patients.
Thus far, no one has tested positive for Novel Coronavirus in Sikkim.
He informed that a team of doctors has been constituted for COVID-19 and that each team will work for 14 days and will then be sent to quarantine, their responsibilities being taken over by the next team. This system, he said, will continue till there was need to treat COVID-19 cases, a situation which has still arisen for Sikkim.
The quarantine facility for doctors and other health workers has been prepared in the annex building of STNM Hospital.
SNTM Hospital spokesperson, Dr Y Bhutia, in turn detailed that the isolation wards have 200 beds and personal protective equipment will be provided to doctor and health workers when the situation demands.
She added that daily training was being provided to health workers in the hospital.
As per a Bulletin issued by the Health Department today, thus far COVID-19 tests have been done for 35 suspected cases, all of which have returned negative.
Meanwhile, as of 03 April, 1,112 people across the State are under Home Quarantine and 107 at facility Quarantine.
