TLRF observed at Kabi Lungchok

The Sikkim Lepcha Association and the Sikkim Lepcha Youth Association observed its age old indigenous Lepcha tribal festival TLRF at Kabi Lungchok on 08 Aug, 2020 with full ritualistic fervour and invocation but in a very small scale including few people, considering the intensification of cases of Covid-19 in the state.

As per the pronouncement of the present Government during the earlier Tendong Lho Rum Faat at Gyaltsing, this year the celebration of Indigenous festival was suppose to be held at Dzongu but due to pandemic Covid-19 situation, the organisation in consultation with the government decided to reconsider the decision at the lager interest and observe its ritual offerings at Kabi Lungchok with few devotees and Government representatives.

The observation of TLRF ritual offering at this historical site was officiated by CZS. Zigmee Lepcha (Boongthing) from Chawang, North Sikkim,  and was graced by the warm presence of  Minister, Ven Sonam Lama, RMDD, Area MLA cum Minister, Ren Karma Loday Bhutia, Forest Department and Minister, Ren Sandup Lepcha, Roads and Bridges. The other dignitaries present were, Former President RMRT, Ren NT Rongkup, Former GS RMRT, Ren KL Lepcha, executive members and advisors of Save Kabi Lungchok Committees.

This year the celebration of Tendong Lho Rum Faat, which precisely involves the paying of homage to holy Mount Tendong for saving the human kind from great deluge that once took place in this part of the world (Ney Mayel Lyang), was dedicated to Padma Shri Awardee, Late Ren Sonam Tsehring Lepcha, for his lifelong contribution in reviving and promoting the Lepcha Culture and Traditions. While abiding the regulations of Pendamic Covid-19, this year  Apart from Kabi Lungchok, TLRF ritual offerings was reported from various districts and villages of Sikkim, similarly the task of offering ritual at holy Mount Tendong was delegated to RMRT and SLYA, Namchi Branch, which they  observed on the same day by strictly adhering to the SOP’s of Covid-19. Prayers and ritual invocations were offered at different places of Sikkim to the Protector Deities to save the humankind from various kinds of epidemics, pandemics and natural disasters.

While addressing the media the Minister Ren Sandup Lepcha offered his warm greetings of the auspicious occasion to the entire people of the state of Sikkim and urged the Lepcha community at large to be extra cautious while observing the ritual offerings at the local level by following all the SOP’s of Covid-19. Similarly in his address Minister, Ren Karma Loday Bhutia also extended the best wishes of TLRF, on behalf of the Government of Sikkim to the entire Lepcha Community. He also expressed his utmost happiness for observing such a ritual offerings is his constituency that addresses the nature for blessing the humankind.

While the President of Renjyong Mutanchi Rong Tarjum, Ren Chewang Norbu in his address expressed his humble gratitude towards the Chief Minister, Ren PS Golay, for his unceasing love and support to the Lepcha community. Besides he also thanked the Government of Sikkim for granting the permission to observe this indigenous festival of the Lepchas at Kabi Lungchok, even during this pandemic situation. Further he also paid his gratitude to the Ministers of Government of Sikkim for their support and warm presence during the occasion. In his note of gratitude he also thanked deeply to the Save Kabi Lungchok Committee for all the logistical support in organising the ritual offerings of TLRF and to all the media fraternity for their coverage.
