Gangtok, 10 Aug:
The first edition of Online Taekwondo Training-cum-Competition was started here on Monday. The 15-day long event is being organized by the Sports & Youth Affairs Department in collaboration with Sikkim Amateur Taekwondo Association [SATA].
The webinar inauguration of the event was held this morning which was chaired by Secretary to Sports & Youth Affairs, Kuber Bhandari and was also attended by Additional Director [HQ], Doma Tshering Bhutia and officials and coaches of Sports & Youth Affairs Department, members of SATA and participants.
A press release of the department informs that the fifteen days long, which will be concluded on 25 August, will be participated by 148 participants. The release mentioned that the main objective of the event is to encourage sportspersons to stay in touch with their sporting skills during this lockdown period and to stay healthy and fit.
Secretary expressed his best wishes to all participating martial artists and encouraged them to take the full advantage of such event. He also highlighted on the importance of such activities especially during the lockdown period to stay physically and mentally fit. Secretary has also declared the event open.
Likewise, Additional Director [HQ] also expressed her best wishes to participants and encouraged them to attend every session of the online training.
The release informed that the webinar inauguration was started with the welcome address by OSD to Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Doniv Rai and concluded with the vote of thanks by Deputy Director [coaching], Jigme Y Lepcha.
