GANGTOK, 10 Aug: Sikkim’s tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far has crossed now 900-mark with detection of 44 new cases reported as on 8 AM of Monday morning. Out of 910 confirmed cases reported in Sikkim, 510 patients have already won their battle against the novel coronavirus and returned home after their full recovery and there are 399 active cases at present in the State. Out of 44 new cases, 39 have been reported in South District and 05 in East District.
In his daily health bulletin on Monday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia mentioned that 39 fresh cases of COVID-19 positive were detected in testing of 346 samples by RT-PCR in VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Sunday. Likewise, he added that eight more persons were tested positive in rapid antigen testing of 115 samples at Rangpo, in which three paramilitary personnel were sent back to their respective quarantine facilities in Siliguri and five were shifted to isolation facilities in the state.
While giving break-up of new patients detected by RT-PCR, Dr Bhutia informed that 24 persons were tested positive for COVID-19 in Jholungay in South Sikkim and reports of two from Mamring, 10 from IBM Rangpo and three returnees from paid quarantine facilities. He informed that five returnees out of 93 were tested positive in rapid antigen testing at Rangpo yesterday, in which 2 personnel from SSB and 1 from ITBP were sent back to their respective quarantine centres at Siliguri and two were shifted to isolation facilities in the State. Likewise, three police personnel posted in Rangpo check-post were also reported positive during rapid antigen testing of 21 contacts in Rangpo, he informed.
Secretary mentioned that 39 new cases have been reported in South District and 08 in East District. He further informed that 16 more COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged from isolation centres on Sunday. Out of 910 confirmed cases reported so far in Sikkim, 603 were detected in East District, 42 in West District, 264 in South District and 01 in North District.
He mentioned that Dialysis Center at Gyalshing District Hospital in West Sikkim has been operational from today and first three patients have undergone through dialysis on the first day. He congratulated CMO and entire team of doctors and paramedics for this new facility in the district hospital.
