The 1st joint meeting of Governing Council and Executive Committee of Samagra Shiksha, Sikkim was organized by the State Project Office, Samagra Shiksha, Education Department at Chintan Bhawan, Gangtok today.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister, Prem Singh Tamang, who is also the President of the Governing Council of Samagra Shiksha. The meeting also saw the gracious presence of Minister for Education, KN Lepcha, also the Vice President of the Governing Council. Present amongst others were Advisor to Education Department, MP Subba, Zilla Adhakshyas of West, South and North Districts, Chief Secretary, SC Gupta who is the Vice President of Governing Council and Chairman of Executive Committee. Other members of the Governing Council i.e. Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Principal Secretary, Rural Development Department, Vice Chancellor, Sikkim University, Secretaries of Information Technology Department and Social Justice Department, Additional Secretaries of Rural Development Department and Planning Department, representatives of NGOs, Women’s Group, attended the meeting.
Additional Chief Secretary, GP Upadhyaya participated in the meeting through video conferencing and delivered the presentation detailing the progress report of Samagra Shiksha in Sikkim. Maneesh Garg, Joint Secretary, Ministry of HRD, Government of India also participated the meeting through video conference from New Delhi.
The State Project Director, Bhim Thatal, placed the resolutions before the Governing Council which were passed and approved by the Governing Council after deliberations.
This was followed by the address of the Minister, KN Lepcha, who outlined the importance about the initiative and commitment of the State Government to work towards development of education in Sikkim whilst underlining the key roles of three pillars in Education viz. Student, Teacher and Parent.
Chief Minister, in his address, while congratulating the Department on the work done, emphasized on the importance of delivery of Education that also encompasses improvement in character, peace of mind, happiness and satisfaction. Chief Minister highlighted on various quarters like need for research on dwindling enrolment, creating awareness on mental health and yoga amongst various other key features in the context of the New Education Policy.
The meeting ended with the Vote of thanks proposed by Director (SCERT), Dr Rabin Chhetri.
