Gangtok, 14 Aug: Sikkim has recorded its highest spike so far in a single day of 149 fresh cases of COVID-19 as on 8 AM of Friday taking the state tally of confirmed cases of novel coronavirus reported so far to four digits of 1080. These new 149 new cases have increased the numbers of active cases to 456 in Sikkim. In the meantime, another 42 patients have won their battle against the COVID-19 and discharged from isolation facilities on Thursday after their complete recoveries.
In his daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia mentioned that all 19 samples were found negative for COVID-19 in testing by TrueNat, while testing of 312 samples by RT-PCR at VRD Lab in STNM hospital, 146 were reported positive for COVID-19. He informed that three more persons were tested positive for COVID-19 during the rapid antigen testing of 169 samples at Rangpo, in which two were shifted to isolation facility and one was returned back to Siliguri.
Dr Bhutia added that an employee from Ford Showroom at Tadong was also reported positive in rapid antigen testing at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong on Thursday. He added that following the report of the employee, the showroom and another building have already been isolated by declaring its as containment zones. He mentioned that the employee had also recently attended a meeting which had the participation of dealers from different vehicles so a precautionary measure all 14 showrooms of vehicles have been close down for 72 hours and will be reopening after conducting tests of employees and sanitization of all showrooms.
While giving break-up of new cases reported in RT-PCR, mentioned that 333 samples of returnees and contacts were sent from guest house of Alkem pharmaceutical in Samardung, South Sikkim and 143 were reported positive while testing of 233 samples and reports of remaining samples were still yet to come. He further informed that out of 22 samples from Swiss Garnier, two were found positive and one more person was tested positive in testing of 17 samples sent from Juventus guest house.
He informed that the rapid antigen testing of 138 samples at Rangpo, the reports of three persons were comes positive for COVID-19. He added that one GREF driver and one civilian returnee were found positive and shifted to the COVID Care Centre at Himalayan Pharmacy, while one ATM cash loader, who was also tested positive, was sent back to Siliguri. He informed that six new cases in East District and 143 new cases were in South District detected yesterday in the State.
Out of 1080 confirmed cases reported so far in Sikkim, 626 are reported in East District, 42 in West District, 411 in South District and 01 in North District.
Secretary informed that 29 employees of Alkem Pharmaceutical were found missing and the management has already filed their missing report in the concerned police station and as the per the information received from the General Management 50% of them were from Bihar and rest were from West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. He mentioned that IDSP Director has already been directed to inform and share information about these 29 employees with concerned IDSP of their States.
