GANGTOK, 16 Aug: Nineteen new cases have been reported in last 24 hours as on 8 AM of Sunday taking the numbers of active cases to 493 in Sikkim. The state tally of confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far is now standing on 1167, in which 673 patients have been fully recovered and returned back to their home after being discharged from the isolation facilities. Twelve more patients have won their battle against novel coronavirus and discharged from the isolation facilities on Saturday.
In his daily health bulletin on Sunday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia mentioned that 11 new cases in East District and 08 new cases in South District were detected yesterday in the State. He informed that one out of 14 samples tested by TrueNat on Saturday reported positive, while another 15 new cases were detected in testing of 299 samples by RT-PCR at VRD Lab in STNM hospital. Likewise, three returnees were also tested positive yesterday during the rapid antigen testing of 101 returnees at Rangpo, he added. Out of 1167 confirmed cases reported so far in Sikkim, a total of 664 were reported in East District, 42 in West District, 460 in South District and 01 in North District.
While giving details of new cases, Dr Bhutia mentioned that one worker of Alkem Pharmaceuticals, 2 workers of Alembic pharmaceuticals, 2 workers of Micro Lab and 3 workers of Swiss Garnier were tested positive in RT-PCR. He added that 2 persons from Jalipool, 1 from Ranipool, 1 from ITBP Lingdum, 2 IT personnel lodged at Railways guest house at Upper Sichey have attended Flu Clinic at STNM hospital and were also found positive during RT-PCR testing. He mentioned that three returnees who were tested positive in RAT were shifted to COVID Care Centre at Himalayan Pharmacy.
Secretary informed that two IT technicians, who were in the State for repairing works at the State Data Centre and as per the permission received from the District Collector these technicians were quarantined at Railways guest house from where they have to go to their repairing works and have to back to the guest house. However, he added that these two technicians, who were tested positive, have breached all guidelines and protocol and went around to meet senior officials of the State and these senior officials were also not aware that these technicians were in quarantine. He informed that the order has already been given to take suitable legal action against the duo for violating guidelines and protocol. It is informed that there were group of six technicians, in which two have violated protocol and went around.
Dr Bhutia informed a patient in Gynae ward in the sixth floor of STNM hospital was also tested positive for COVID-19 and entire sixth floor has been contained and no new patient would not admit in the ward. He added that doctors, nurses and staffs exposed to the patient have been shifted to nearby annexure building to attend their duty in the ward and test will be conducted after seven days. On the same, he urged CMOs and doctors in the districts not to refer any gynae case to STNM hospital until it would not be de-contained.
