Sikkim Aakraman to celebrate decadal year with charity events.

GANGTOK, 16 Aug: A premier-division club, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club [SAFC] is all set to mark its 10th anniversary on 18 August. The club has announced to commemorate its decadal year with series of social and charitable events on the theme ‘Pause for a Cause’. The club was founded by few likeminded footballers of Sikkim in year 2010.

Addressing a press conference here this afternoon, Sikkim Aakraman FC president Jigmee Singey Rinzing Wangchuk mentioned that the club had earlier decided to celebrate its 10th anniversary in a grand manner by inviting all its old and existing members, players, coaches and supporters but amid this global pandemic situation the club has withheld its programmes. However, he mentioned that the club has now decided to organise social and charitable events to mark its decadal anniversary.

Sikkim Aakraman FC is organizing a voluntary blood donation camp at infront of Traffic booth at Titanic Park in MG Marg from 10 AM to 04 PM on 18 August. He informed that members, players and supporters of the club would donate blood on the day. He further appealed the people from non-containment zones to come forward to donate their blood to save some person precious life and stressed upon the importance of the blood donation amid this global pandemic situation.

Another event to mark the anniversary is Amboo Kitchen Relief. Mr Wangchuk mentioned that Sikkim Aakraman FC in association with Amboo Kitchen would donate the entire amount of food sale of Amboo Kitchen of 18 August for the charitable purpose. On the same, he urged the people to contribute to the cause by ordering the food online for the day from Amboo Kitchen on 18 August. He informed that Amboo Kitchen has decided to donate the entire amount of the sale of its two branches at Gangtok and Guwahati for charitable purpose.

Likewise, the club has decided to organise 10th Anniversary Aakraman Grand Tambola on WhatsApp platform and to donate the entire amount leftout after giving prizes for the charitable purpose. The club is presently working on to take permission from the concerned authority and would announce the date and time soon.

Likewise, Mr Wangchuk mentioned that the club has also been working to support its footballers who are facing emotional and financial issues in this pandemic period. “We have achieved lots in last 10 years and now we have plans to take Sikkim Aakraman FC to top 10 professional clubs in the Indian league within next ten years,” he said.

Likewise, other founding members mentioned that the club has provided exposure and platform to many talented local footballers of the State. They further added that the club would continuously work to bring out more local footballers from all corners of the State in the state and national levels. They mentioned that the club has also been actively involved in various social activities since the inception and provided food to around 400 frontline workers every for 50 straight days during the lockdown period.

Sikkim Aakraman FC qualified in the premier division league in 2016 and lifted the champion’s trophy in same year and stood as runners-up in the premier division on 2017 and 2018. The club has also played upto semi-final round of the prestigious All India Governor’s Gold Cup in 2016 and 2017 and finalists for three time in the Independence Cup Football Tournament. The club has also represented Sikkim in the tournaments at Delhi and Shillong.

The press conference was also addressed by Nitin Rai, Sonam Gelek, Sonam Gyaltsen Tenzing, Kintup Lachungpa and Tenzing Gyurme.
