The Sikkim Democratic Front Party is a party based on ideology and principles that puts the rule of law above all else. With the unfortunate allegation against Rup Narayan Rai, member for Sikkim Democratic Front Party, that has come to light in the last few days, the party has taken the decision to suspend Shri Rai’s membership from the party till the due process of law has taken its course and the final judgement from the court is given, after which further appropriate action will be taken by the party. A criminal a case vide FIR No. 20/2020 Dated-14-8-2020 under Sections 6/10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 has been registered in Melli Police Station, South Sikkim, against Rup Narayan Rai, son of Laxuman Rai, resident of Upper Sadam, South Sikkim.

The allegation raised against Shri Rai is highly condemnable and the party takes the issue with utmost seriousness. The SDF Party which has worked tirelessly for the protection and empowerment of women and believes in protecting the rights and privileges of the people of Sikkim, condemns such acts of inhumane crime as alleged or reported. The Party has always maintained and upheld moral ethics and discipline within the Party and expects its members to abide by discipline of the highest order.

Therefore, in view of the directions made by the Party President under Article 11 of the Constitution of the Sikkim Democratic Front Party, the membership of Rup Narayan Rai is hereby suspended from the SDF Party till the final decision is taken in the said case by the concerned authority or competent Court of Law, following the due process of law. If found guilty, we expect the concerned authority to mete out the highest punishment appropriate for the alleged crime.
