A premier division football club, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club has marked its decadal anniversary with a voluntary blood donation camp on the theme ‘Pause for a Cause’ here in front of Traffic Police booth at Titanic Park in MG Marg on 18 Aug, 2020 (Tuesday). On the occasion, a total of 46 units of blood were donated by members and players and local people of the capital. The blood donation camp was organised in coordination with the Blood Bank of STNM Hospital. Sikkim Aakraman FC was formed by few likeminded footballers of Sikkim in 2010 and has become the local crowd favorite premier division football club due to its attacking game in the last 10 years.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, a founding member of the club, Prabhakar Golay mentioned that the blood donation camp was one of the social initiatives of the club to mark its 10th anniversary. He stated that there was scarcity of blood in hospitals during this pandemic period so the club has decided to organise this blood donation camp to give back to the society. He informed that the members and players and local people have voluntarily donated their blood to save someone precious life. "Our objective to organise the blood camp is to give back to the society in this difficult period of the global pandemic," he said.
Another founding member of the club, Sonam Gyaltsen mentioned that the club was founded by few likeminded footballers in 2010 and the club has completed 10 years of its journey today. "On the occasion, one of the executive members, Jorden Barfungpa who runs a cloud kitchen, Amboo Kitchen has decided to donate the entire amount of the sale of today in two branches at Gangtok and Guwahati for the charity," he said. He mentioned that as many footballers have been suffering financially in this lockdown period so Sikkim Aakraman FC has also decided to support its players by starting some small start-up for them during this difficult time until the normalcy will come back in the State.
