25 new cases and one more death take Sikkim’s COVID tally to 1,232

Twenty-five fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported in Sikkim on Wednesday taking the number of active cases in the State to 440. A total of 1,232 case of COVID-19 have been detected in the State thus far or whom 789 people have made full recoveries and have since been discharged from hospital. The State has also lost three lives to the virus.
Meanwhile, of the 25 new cases in the State, 24 are reported from East Sikkim and one from South Sikkim.
In his daily health bulletin released on Wednesday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia informed that 13 cases were detected through rapid antigen testing of 257 samples on Tuesday, while all eleven samples tested on TrueNat returned negative.
Likewise, 12 of the 241 samples tested positive through RT-PCR at the VRD Lab at STNM Hospital.
While providing the break-up for RAT, the release informs that all seven samples from Rongli PHC and one at Rhenock CHC returned negative while of the 21 samples collected at Singtam District Hospital, seven were found positive.
Among the seven are two employees of CIPLA, Kumrek, and five IRB personnel from Mamring check-post in South Sikkim.
The release informs that 228 rapid antigen tests were conducted at Rangpo RAT centre, which includes 222 returnees and 06 others. It is added that two returnees were found positive for COVID-19, one of whom was an ITBP personnel who was then returned to Siliguri while the civilian returnee was shifted to an isolation centre.
Likewise, five other new cases were detected from others during the rapid antigen testing including three from Fatak Line, one from Chanautay Majhitar and one from IBM.
It is informed that a driver from Kalimpong was also found positive during rapid antigen testing of 19 samples in South Sikkim and Rambi BPHC Health team and West Bengal Police posted at West Bengal Melli check post were informed and the driver handed over to them.
Likewise, 13 new cases were detected through RT-PCR testing, in which one is from ITBP, two from Juventus, one from Alkem, one from Tadong Metro, two from Ranipool, one from near CRH, Tadong, one from Shyari, an Innova driver from 2nd Mile used by the supposed IT “technicians,” one from 6th Mile Tadong, one is the patient who passed away at STNM this morning and one from Singtam District Hospital.
The release mentions that out of two contacts of the deceased person from IBM Rangpo, one, his son-in-law, was found positive. He is an employee of CIPLA but has not been to work since 22 July, 2020.
The release further mentions that two among the sanitization team who carried out sanitization at Tashiling and Health Secretariats also tested positive.
“So the Health Secretariat was closed today [Wednesday]. Tomorrow the office shall function but the health tracking monitoring and evacuation team were primary contacts so they are put on home quarantine. The second team has been created led by Sonam G Bhutia, State IEC Officer,” it is informed.
