In his daily health bulletin on Thursday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia mentioned that 49 fresh cases of novel coronavirus positive were reported in testing of 213 samples by RT-PCR at VRD Lab in STNM hospital on Thursday, while another nine cases were reported in the rapid antigen testing of 160 samples. Likewise, the reports of all 14 samples tested by TrueNat were came out negative.
While giving break-up of 9 new cases detected in RAT, he mentioned that the rapid antigen testing of 52 samples from South Sikkim, four at Rongli PHC and one at Rhenock CHC were reported negative, while two out of 7 samples at Singtam District Hospital were tested positive for COVID-19. He informed that one person from containment zone of Goskhan area and an employee of Singtam Nagar Panchayat from Adarsh Gaon in Singtam were reported positive.
Dr Bhutia mentioned that a total of 136 rapid antigen testing was done at Rangpo yesterday including 135 returnees, in which six returnees tested positive for COVID-19. He added that one more person reported positive at the Central Referral Hospital, Tadong in RAT.
Giving break-up of 49 cases reported in RT-PCR, he mentioned that four patients from CRH, Tadong, 2 from medical ward, 1 from physiology ward and 1 from respiratory ward, were tested positive for COVID-19. He mentioned that samples of 16 workers of Macleod sent by Pakyong PHC were also reported positive. Likewise, one returnee from a paid quarantine facility, 8 from Tadong, 13 from ITBP Ray, 1 from Ranipool, another employee of Macleod from Aho, an employee of Glenmark from Namin-Rumtek and 4 from Mandi Bazaar, Rangpo were tested positive for COVID-19.
Dr Bhutia expressed that to declare the entire Central Referral Hospital complex as the containment zone after four patients were tested positive from three wards was not suitable as the ward can be contained after any patient reported positive from the respective ward but to contain the entire hospital was not suitable. He stated that if such practice was made in the past then most of the hospitals in the state would have been contained by now. He mentioned that entire hospital cannot be contained as the hospital was for the emergency services and CRH can run by containing its three wards and its patients and doctors and staffs who got exposed other it would be difficult for STNM hospital to manage after all patients diverted to it in the present COVID-19 situation.
Out of 1290 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far in Sikkim, 786 cases were reported in East District, 42 in West District, 461 in South District and 01 in North District. The State has recorded three COVID-19 deaths so far.
