Forty-six fresh cases of novel coronavirus were reported as on 8 AM Friday in Sikkim taking the total numbers of active cases to 499.
The State’s tally of the confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported so far now stands at 1,336, of whom 834 patients have recovered and have been discharged from isolation facilities. Three COVID-19 deaths have been recorded in Sikkim so far.
In his daily health bulletin on Friday, Health Department DG-cum-Secretary, Dr Pempa T Bhutia mentioned that reports of all 34 samples tested by TrueNat on Thursday returned negative, while 41 out of 428 samples tested by RT-PCR at the VRD Lab at STNM Hospital came positive for COVID-19.
He added that five fresh cases were also reported through Rapid Antigen Testing of 193 samples at different parts of the State.
Meanwhile, seven more patients have beaten novel coronavirus making full recoveries and were discharged from the COVID Care Centre at Paljor Stadium complex yesterday.
While providing the break-up of the new cases reported through RAT, Dr Bhutia mentioned that one driver from Jaldhaka [West Bengal] was found positive out of 52 samples tested at the Melli screening centre and was returned back.
Likewise, he added that two returnees also tested positive from among 97 at Rangpo, and both, since they were workers at a company were sent back.
He mentioned that two contacts tested positive for COVID-19 in testing of 16 samples at Rangpo, of whom one is a Safai Karmachari working at the RAT Centre, Rangpo, and another is an employee of Cipla Kumrek. Both were shifted to COVID Care Centre at Himalayan Pharmacy.
Dr Bhutia informed that the rapid antigen testing of 12 samples at Singtam District Hospital returned three positive cases, of whom one person was from the containment zone of Goskhan Dara, Singtam and another an employee at Torrent Pharma and his father from Chalamthang.
He added that all three were symptomatic and have hence been shifted to STNM hospital.
On the 41 new cases reported in RT-PCR, the Secretary informed that 22 out of 29 samples of ITBP Lingdum personnel returned positive for COVID-19.
Similarly, he mentioned that a worker from Zydus Kumrek, eight contacts from IBM Rangpo, an ambulance driver of Alkem, five from Railway Guest House in Upper Sichey including a dentist and one from a paid quarantine facility also tested positive.
The supposed IT Technicians brought in by the Information Technology are housed at the Railway Guesthouse. Among the five, two are repeat tests. All four of the so-called IT technicians have tested positive.
He added that three persons from Flu Clinic of STNM hospital were also found positive of whom one is from Upper Shyari and one from the Gyane ward of STNM hospital.
