Home Deptt allows inter-district travel, declares Saturdays holidays

Gangtok, 24 Aug:

The Home Department today lifted the ban on inter and intra-district travel. This will, however, be allowed only from Monday to Friday and subject to odd-even stipulation.

A Home Department order issued by Home Secretary, R Telang, also restores government offices to the 5-day week schedule by declaring all Saturdays as holidays. Heads of Departments will now make arrangements for sanitisation of office premises during the weekends.

While passenger and private vehicles are not allowed inter or intra district travel on weekends, this restriction does not apply on goods carriers, the order clarifies.

The order also details that government employees identified as primary contacts of COVID-19 patients will be provided "special leave" to stay in quarantine, the duration of which will be prescribed by the Health Department to the concerned HoD. No employee can remain absent without this special leave sanctioned by the HoD and warns that such absence will be treated as leave without pay.
