STNM Hospital successfully carries out State’s first surgery on COVID-19 patient


Gangtok, 25 Aug:

The first surgery on a COVID-19 patient was performed at STNM Hospital in Gangtok, Sikkim today. Dr Cheemi Palmu Theengh performed a caesarean surgery on a 33-year-old pregnant woman at 8:40 on Tuesday morning. Both mother and baby are doing well, it is learnt.

The woman, who is also diabetic, had developed some complications due to which she was referred to STNM Hospital from Central Referral Hospital-Tadong. She had tested positive via TrueNat at CRH. The team of doctors at STNM Hospital decided to perform a C-section because of the complications.

The team of doctors was led by Dr Theengh and comprised of Anaesthetists: Dr Gyamtso Bhutia and Dr Abhisekh Gurung; paediatrician Dr Ruth Yonzon; nurses Lassangmith Lepcha, Malati Subba, Ranjeeta Ghataney and Prasish Tamang; OT Technician, Praveen Lama and Bhim Kumar Tamang; Ward Attendant, Pem Lhamu Sherpa; and housekeeping staff, Kailash Rai.
